Rick began carving creative wood; branches, driftwood and root knots, into "plant men", then expanded to carving walking sticks for a friend. He added pyrography, (wood burning), and his wife, Kathy, began to paint & color his creations, also learning wood burning and began experimenting with many different color mediums.
In 2020 Rick & Kathy added CNC carving and are currently working on different resin/epoxy projects.
Bullfrogs & Butterflies began decades ago...
Harvesting aspen trees from the mountains of Colorado gives us a unique "canvas" on which to showcase our creativity.
Old barns and fences give us much of the barn wood that we use.
Cedar, aged and worn over decades in the varied climate of Colorado is a gorgeous wood. We call it "zebra" wood because of the stripes caused by the weathering.
Driftwood and cottonwood bark, collected along the banks of the Arkansas River, are showcased in much of our art.
Kiln dried pine is a softer, open grained wood that we use along with poplar; harder, with tighter grain, in our CNC carving.
Walnut, harvested from local, dead trees,
is a hard wood with beautiful grain and coloring.
